Braveheart Shipping BV has commissioned Dutch boatbuilders Javelin International and KD Workboats www.kdmotoryachts.nl/ to build a new windfarm vessel to expand its workboat fleet.
The new Javelin 22.22 will extend Braveheart’s field of operation past its current 2,000 mile zone – important with the ever increasing demand in the offshore renewable sector.
Jelle Hakvoort, managing director of Braveheart Shipping BV said: “The choice for the Javelin was made because we can serve an entirely new market with this vessel: the construction and maintenance of windfarms”.
The vessel will be equipped with two 1,300 HP engines. Interestingly, the Javelin has additional qualities that have never been used in the market. Vessel stability has been optimised even in wave heights of 2-4 metres and has been tested by the Marin Institute in Wageningen.
This makes for unprecedented stability which is important when transferring personnel in extreme weather conditions.
Mr Hakvoort added: “This vessel is equipped with at least equal technology to vessels twice as long. The vessel’s equipment also offers provisions for non-stop service. Another advantage is that this company also has its registered office in Urk so we can follow the build from up close”.
The expected delivery date will be in May 2012.
