Air Ferry

Continental Airlines Cargo has come up with a creative and faster way to get express packages to and from New York City: a water ferry.
The idea is to combine Continental's red-eye flights from the U.S. West Coast arriving in Newark around 6 a.m with the frequent passenger ferry services of the New York Waterway.
On arrival at the airport, cargo will be transferred to a secured van on the ferry and speed across the Hudson River, arriving at Continental's new QUICKPAK ticket counter at the New York Waterway 39th Street Terminal in Midtown Manhattan by 7: 40 a.m.
"This is the quickest and most reliable way to get vital packages to and from Manhattan," said Jack Boisen, Continental vice president-cargo division. "We believe this is a better mousetrap because it cuts hours off the current express options into JFK. This is the only service of its kind in the New York market."
Airlines have used a water-route bypass around New York's congested roads for passengers at LaGuardia Airport and one entrepreneur tried several years ago to launch a freight-focused ferry from Kennedy Airport.
Continental has been running a pilot program for over a year and "we encouraged to take it to the next level," said Tony Randgaard, spokesman for Continental.
