A man was arrested and charged in connection with assaulting a police officer and trespassing on Austal USA property on the Mobile River near downtown, police said today.
Michael Andrew Foster, 25, of Mobile was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into Mobile County Metro Jail on charges of second-degree assault, second-degree criminal trespass, terrorist threats, failure to obey and resisting arrest, according to police spokesman Officer John Young. Foster was being held in lieu of $8,000 in bail and is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Wednesday, according to the jail log.
Foster is accused telling a Austal security guard that he could blow up a building on the shipyard's property, Young said in a news release. When police arrived on the scene, Foster refused to give them his identification and resisted arrest, Young said. Officers usted a stun gun to immobilize him, Young said.
One of the officers suffered minor injuries during the arrest, Young said. Foster is not and has not been an Austal employee, Young said.
