· 2008 will be the 55th Collins Stewart London Boat Show, in association with the Daily Mail
· It is London’s largest annual event
· It takes 13 days to set up the show and 6 days to dismantle it
· The Show has over 500 exhibitors
· The biggest vessel on display in 2007 was HMS Exeter, a Royal Navy Destroyer stretching 125m in length
· Aside from the HMS Exeter, the biggest exhibitor boat at the Show last year was the Sunseeker’s Tri-deck Motor Yacht 37M. The £11.5 million tri deck yacht is the largest Sunseeker have ever produced
· Again, aside from the HMS Exeter, the Tri-deck Motor Yacht 37M was also the most expensive boat at the Show, costing £11.5M
· The smallest boat at the Show was the Reid Marine’s Starfish at 1.5metres – a dinghy costing £545
· The Collins Stewart London Boat Show hopes to welcome over 140,000 visitors to the Show in 2008.
· 2007 Collins Stewart London Boat Show resulted in the best overall experience and value for money ratings by visitors in recent years, with 93% claiming that they will revisit the Show again
· The Show will see over 45 media briefings with World product launches, UK launches and a Worldwide debut being announced on Press & Preview Day
HMS Exeter
· HMS Exeter holds the most amount of crew of any craft at the Show with quarters for 260 on board
· HMS Exeter is credited with being the last ship to engage an enemy aircraft with a Surface to Air Missile during the battle for the Falkland Island
Facts about Cutty Sark
· She is one of the most famous ships in the world
· She is the only surviving extreme clipper, and the only tea clipper still in existence
· The majority of her hull fabric survives from the original construction and she is the best example of a merchant composite construction vessel
· She has captured the imagination of millions of people, 15 million of whom have come on board to learn the stories she has to tell
· She was preserved in Greenwich partly as a memorial to the men of the merchant navy, particularly those who lost their lives in the world wars
Past vs Present
· As always, the Show offers activities for everyone from thrill seekers to historians
· One of the Show’s new attractions is a Kite Surf simulator on the Watersports Zone
· The oldest working UK boat at the Show was the 200 year old oyster fishing smack Boadicea on the Classic Boat feature stand.
Famous Faces
· HRH Princess Royal will be at the Show on Wednesday 16 January 2008
· Well known faces from the sailing community including round the world sailors Alex Thomson and Mike Golding OBE, Geoff Holt and current Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year Katie Miller will all make an appearance at the Show.
