Software firm Vigilos gets $6 million in venture funds
The threat of terrorism continues to pose security challenges for businesses and government organizations. But it is also creating an opportunity for Vigilos, which announced $6 million in venture funding Thursday.
The 6-year-old Seattle startup makes software that helps organizations manage security cameras, fire alarms and key card entry systems. For example, Washington State Ferries is using the product so staff members and the Washington State Patrol can monitor live video from ferries in Puget Sound.
The ferry system also is using the product to remotely manage card access at terminals and on vessels.
The lead investor in the financing round is Northwest Venture Associates, which is adding managing partner Bob Wolfe to the board.
In 2002, Vigilos raised $7.6 million from NWVA and Highway 12 Ventures.

Vigilos Closes $6 million Financing
Seattle, Washington, 29-March-2006 -- Vigilos, the leading provider of Enterprise Security Management (ESM) software for the physical security needs of large and small organizations, announced that it has raised $6 million in new equity capital in a round led by Northwest Venture Associates.
"NWVA and the other investors recognize that our software solves critical issues that range from securing thousands of critical sites for the Federal Government to ensuring that security officers are deployed effectively and efficiently," said Geof Barker, CEO of Vigilos. "The new capital will allow us to continue developing our reseller network and refine our product offerings so that every organization will have access to the benefits of the Vigilos ESM platform."
With the financing, Vigilos adds Bob Wolfe, Managing Partner at NWVA, to its Board of Directors. Prior to joining NWVA, Bob was president and chief operating officer of Toronto-based GT Group Telecom, then Canada's largest independent telecommunications provider. Before GT Group Telecom, Bob was chief financial officer of Trillium Corporation, a private international investment company. While at Trillium Bob served as Chairman of Gargoyles, a manufacturer of specialty sunglasses. He currently serves on the boards of Dategrity (Chairman), NetMotion Wireless (Chairman), Apparent Networks, Bistro Fresh, IP Fabrics, and the Rental Housing Association of Puget Sound. Earlier in his career, he spent eight years at Goldman Sachs.
