INCREASED VALLEJO-SF FERRY SERVICE COMING IN APRIL
03/23/05 10:10 PST VALLEJO (BCN) BAY CITY NEWS
Vallejo's City Council Tuesday night approved two resolutions that mean increased ferry service to San Francisco and expanded express bus service in the North Bay.
City spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said starting April 4, there will be 11 weekend roundtrips on the Baylink ferries between Vallejo and San Francisco and 15 roundtrips on weekdays.
The city uses three high-speed ferries. The commute takes 55 minutes each way.
The earliest ferry will leave Vallejo at 5:30 a.m. and the latest leaves San Francisco at 9:50 p.m., Mazzaferro said.
Adult one-way fares are increasing 50 cents to $10, a Bay Pass roundtrip increases $2 to $17 and a monthly pass will be $215.
The city is using Regional Measure 2 revenue from increased tolls on the Bay Area's seven toll bridges to fund a 35-year program of highway and public transit improvements.
The regional measure program includes $5.2 million annually for expanded express bus service - as much as an 80 percent increase - in the North Bay. Of that amount, $1.8 million will be applied to the express bus service Vallejo operates along the Interstate Highway 80 corridor and includes Fairfield and Vacaville.
Another $2.7 million annual allocation will be used to expand Baylink ferry service including the third ferry.
It is estimated that 850,000 people use the Vallejo Ferry Terminal each year.
