Ferries back up and running after yesterdays wind storm
Feb, 01 2006 - 8:30 AM
VICTORIA/CKNW(AM980) - B.C. Ferries are back plying the stormy seas on the South Coast. Several sailings between the B.C. Mainland and Vancouver Island were cancelled late yesterday during a powerful windstorm. The backlog of motorists has resulted in waits of up to two sailings at the main ferry terminals, today. Extra sailings have been added, and your best bet is to phone ahead or log on to the B.C. Ferries website for sailing times.
Wind gusts of up to 70 kilometres an hour toppled trees and knocked out power yesterday to as many as 50-thousand homes on Vancouver Island. B.C. Hydro crews are working to restore electricity but thousands of customers are still in the dark. A wind warning remains in effect for Victoria, western Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands.
