The city of New Bedford has a new addition.
Mayor Fred Kalisz and Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, including other dignitaries, cut the ribbon at the city's state pier on a new passenger terminal for its high-speed ferry service to the islands.
The service features a waiting area, a ticket office, a baggage area and administrative offices.
The state said the million-dollar project is a plus for the tourism industry.
Last year, more than 75,000 passengers traveled to Martha's Vineyard from New Bedford.
