For almost a year Incat has been building what will be the world’s first high speed Ro-Ro ferry to be powered by LNG as a primary fuel, and the design team of course commenced preliminary work several years ago. This is a relatively slow build period for our company however the engine delivery date to a large extent determines our completion date and we will still have more than a year to go before sea trials and delivery to our South American customer, Buquebus.
In the late 1980’s Incat commenced building fast craft in lightweight marine grade aluminium even before the IMO’s High Speed Craft Code was written. We’re not unaccustomed to working with the authorities as new ground is broken. Det Norske Veritas – DNV are working closely with us to ensure the strength and safety of the ship each step of the way however its likely there will be adaptions and additions to the High Speed Craft Code to which we build, to cater for the use of LNG in future HSC. Yard 072, a 15m Net Cleaning Catamaran is progressing extremely well and is on target for completion on 04 November 2011. The hull plating is nearing completion, with the welding the main task left. The wheelhouse structure was recently completed on to allow painting of window pillars prior to installation of bulkhead linings.
The wheelhouse dash and galley units have been prefabricated to allow fitting of equipment prior to installing on vessel. The plumbing, cable trays and machinery pipework has been fitted and will be completed once equipment is installed. The shafting, bearings, rudders and exhaust system are currently be manufactured by suppliers. All equipment has been ordered and/or received to allow smooth completion of the vessel.
