Austal buys land; waterfront lots make for hot sales

MOBILE, Ala. - Austal USA paid $12 million for 31 acres along Mobile River owned by BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, formerly Atlantic Marine, according to court records. Terrie Streed and Kimberly Whitehurst of Rels Title in Mobile handled the closing transaction.
A gulf-front lot on West Beach in Gulf Shores was purchased by a Montgomery physician for $715,000, according to Robbie Jaeger of Century 21 Meyer Real Estate. The lot in the 2400 block of W. Beach Boulevard has 100 front feet on the Gulf. The buyer plans to build a nine-bedroom house.
A lot at 28380 Ono Blvd., with 100 front feet on Old River on Ono Island, was purchased for $665,000 by a Birmingham buyer, according to Lance Steffek of REMAX Paradise, who represented the buyer.
Country Place Living paid $250,000 for 3 acres on E. Laurel Avenue in Foley, just past Juniper Street, and plans to build a 22-unit assisted living facility, according to James Calvert of REMAX of Gulf Shores The Pro Team. Construction will start next month on the 16,000-square-foot center, he said. Country Place has plans to build 20 facilities in Alabama, including locations in Fairhope and Bay Minette.
Beauty Land Beauty Supply has leased 15,000 square feet in Parkway Center on Dauphin Island Parkway and should open in late August, according to Angela Tunstall of McAleer Tunstall Company.
Little Caesar's Pizza will open Aug.1 in 1,400 square feet in Fairhope Plaza on U.S. 98 in Fairhope, near Thomas Hospital, according to Jean Lankford of J.A. Lankford & Co., who represented the landlord. Bennett Long of The Cirrus Group worked for Little Caesar's.
Subway has leased 1,365 square feet in Merchants Cove on Ala. 59 in Foley, next to Walmart, and plans to open in early September, according to Lankford, who represented the landlord.
IMS Systems, an industrial contractor based in Pittsburgh, has leased a 2,000-square-foot office building at 360 U.S. 43 in Saraland, according to Joey Betbeze of Betbeze Realty Co. IMS is working at the ThyssenKrupp AG steel plant in Calvert, he said.
Cabinetry and Trimworks has leased a 3,000-square-foot office warehouse on Ala. 59 near the Foley Beach Express in Foley, according to Tim Herrington of Herrington Realty.
Caroline's Treasures, a gifts and collectibles store, has opened in a 7,000-square-foot building at 3720 Cottage Hill Road and Montlimar Drive, according to Mike McAleer of McAleer Tunstall Co.
Beach Beauty Tanning & Spa has opened in 1,200 square feet in Foley Retail Center on W. 9th Avenue in Foley, next to Walmart, according to Bill Hyatt of LanDel Realty.
First M-Pressions Hair Salon will open in August in 800 square feet in Town West Shopping Center at 5701 Moffett Road, according to Amber Dedeaux of Vallas Realty.
