Austal Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bellamy, recently addressed a group of leaders and experts from across the defence industry at the Defence + Industry Conference and Trade Exhibition, hosted by the Australian Government’s Defence Materiel Organisation.
Speaking to a presentation entitled ‘Austal – Breaking the Bounds of Naval Convention’, Mr Bellamy discussed the evolution of the Western Australian company, which has expanded from constructing fishing boats to emerge as a global defence prime contractor, while also successfully diversifying its product range to include high speed aluminium commercial ferries and innovative naval, auxiliary and patrol vessels.
Austal’s revolutionary vessel platforms have found favour with some of the world’s leading defence forces, with two designs, the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and the Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV), currently under construction for the US Navy at Austal’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, USA. Austal has also recently been announced as preferred tenderer for the Cape Class Patrol Boat fleet for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service.
During the presentation, Mr Bellamy also outlined Austal’s future growth strategies, which involve further developing the company’s systems and support capabilities on a global scale, whilst also continuing to advance Austal’s defence product offering.
Mr Bellamy was also interviewed by Financial Review TV following the presentation. A copy of this interview can be found here.
