Anyone wishing to sail aboard the newest addition to the B.C. Ferry fleet, when she makes her maiden voyage between Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay, may get the chance as soon as Saturday.
B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall said Coastal Renaissance is tentatively scheduled to begin service this weekend. The company is awaiting final confirmation from Transport Canada that the ship is cleared to begin service.
Coastal Renaissance will replace the Queen of Cowichan on the route. That vessel will move over to the Duke Point route, and sail to and from Tsawwassen.
Coastal Inspiration, the second of three ships being built by Flensburger Shipyard in Germany, is currently positioned off the coast of Panama, waiting to pass through the Panama Canal and into the Pacific Ocean.
Marshall said that the ship is expected to navigate through the Panama Canal later this week.
The last vessel, Coastal Celebration, will be delivered later this year. The total cost of the three vessels is $542 million.
