Search for missing vessel suspended
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
JUNEAU, Alaska -- A search for a fishing vessel and its two crew members has been suspended off the coast of Unalaska Island.
The Coast Guard launched the search for the 50-foot Northern Dawn Thursday morning after the vessel's beacon was triggered.
Searchers worked all day Friday in helicopters, fixed wing aircraft and a Coast Guard cutter.
They found a life ring and a small oily sheen off the northwest coast of Unalaska.
The two men on board the Northern Dawn had been collecting empty pots from the Baridi Tanner Crab fishery.
The Coast Guard has not yet released their identities.
The Northern Dawn is based in Dutch Harbor.
Unalaska is in the Aleutians about 800 miles southwest of Anchorage.
