Australia, France and New Zealand are due to announce a joint approach to maritime surveillance patrols in the South Pacific.

The three-way partnership will aim to combat a rise in illegal fishing in the region by helping Pacific Islands states monitor and catch unauthorised boats.
Our correspondent in Canberra, Graeme Dobell, says the French minister for overseas territories, Francois Baroin, is in the Australian capital to sign the declaration.
Australia, France and New Zealand have been negotiating the details of the joint surveillance over the past year, building on an existing agreement for cooperation on disaster relief in the South Pacific.
Mr Baroin has invited Australia to attend a France-Oceania summit in Paris in June, along with 15 other countries in the Pacific Islands Forum.
