Ferry considered terrorist target Last Updated Mar 29 2005 08:07 AM AST CBC News pei.cbc.ca/HALIFAX – The Bay Ferries service that travels between Nova Scotia and Maine has been included in a U.S. Coast Guard study examining possible terrorist targets. The Cat, a high-speed catamaran, carries 900 passengers per trip between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Bar Harbor, Maine. BAY FERRIES: Information on The Cat www.catferry.com/Officials claim several hundred people could die if a busy passenger ferry were sunk. The study says ferries are easier targets than airplanes because they can carry cars and trucks, making bombs easier to hide. Ferries travelling between Canada and the United States follow some basic security procedures. They include checking passenger IDs, screening baggage and checking vehicles for dangerous devices. The vessel's bridge and engine room also have to be secure.
