Business magnate Kjell Inge Røkke will step down as board chairman in the Aker group, and Aker Kværner board chairman Leif-Arne Langøy will take his place.
Røkke will continue as an ordinary board member until the company's annual meeting on March 30.
"By leaving this position I free up time to work on new and exciting projects for Aker. Some of them already look to have significant potential for value creation," Røkke said in a statement to the Oslo stock exchange.
The company also announced Friday that Executive Vice President of Aker, Martinus Brandal, will take over as CEO in Aker Kværner, replacing Inge K. Hansen on July 1.
Røkke's business empire reached a new record value on Thursday morning when the market value of all the companies in the Aker system rose to over NOK 50 billion (USD 7.4 billion).
